The Team Type 1 Global Ambassador Scholarship Program is a scholarship program aimed at providing educational opportunities for young athletes with diabetes. The program was founded in 2004 by Phil Southerland and Joe Eldridge, both of whom have type 1 diabetes, and was initially focused on supporting a professional cycling team of athletes with diabetes.
Since then, the program has expanded to include the scholarship program, which provides financial support for young athletes with diabetes who want to pursue higher education. The scholarship is open to athletes with type 1 diabetes who are actively involved in a sport and have demonstrated academic achievement, community involvement, and leadership skills.
The program is designed to help young athletes with diabetes achieve their full potential both on and off the field. It provides financial support for tuition, books, and other educational expenses, as well as mentoring and networking opportunities with other athletes with diabetes and healthcare professionals.
