The Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Contest is an annual competition sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization in the United States. The contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school or home study program in the United States, its territories or its possessions.
The purpose of the contest is to promote patriotism and encourage young people to think about their rights and responsibilities as American citizens. Each year, the VFW selects a theme for the contest, and participants are asked to write and record a three to five-minute audio-essay on that theme.
The first-place winner receives a $30,000 college scholarship, while other top winners receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $16,000. The Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Contest is a great opportunity for high school students to explore their patriotism and gain valuable communication skills.
