It works to advance the field of librarianship and increase access to libraries in America. Every year, an ALA or library support staff member who is pursuing an MLS degree in a programme that is accredited by the ALA is given the Miriam Hornback Scholarship, which bears the name of a longtime ALA employee.
A U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is pursuing an MLS in an ALA-accredited programme is eligible for the ALA Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship. Applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be considered: be citizens of the United States, Canada, or be lawful permanent residents; attend a master’s programme that is accredited by the American Library Association; have no more than 12 semester hours or one-third of the required semester hours towards an MLS, MLIS, or MIS prior to June 1 of the year in which the award is made; and have a complete application.
