The Lewis Scholarship will encourage student journalists of colour who want to intern with news media organisations in Washington, D.C. by offering free housing and a monthly stipend. Each fall, spring, and summer semester, a single undergraduate student journalist of colour will receive the $10,000 Lewis Scholarship. As part of the scholarship, the student will receive a $1,000 monthly stipend and free accommodation through Washington Intern Student accommodation for the duration of their internship, which is typically four months. During their time in Washington, D.C., applicants must be enrolled in online courses at their institution or university. Both recent grads and scholarship recipients would not need to be enrolled during the summer.
