Eligibility Criteria For NBCC Minority Fellowship Program for Addictions Counselors

To be eligible for the NBCC Minority Fellowship Program for Addictions Counselors, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who identifies as a racial/ethnic minority.
  • Be enrolled in a master’s degree program in counseling that is accredited by CACREP.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing culturally competent counseling services to underserved and minority populations affected by substance abuse and addiction.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be in good academic standing and making satisfactory progress in their graduate program.
  • Have completed at least 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of graduate coursework in counseling by the start of the fellowship.

Applicants must also be able to commit to participating in all program activities and fulfilling all program requirements, including attending an orientation session and a summer training institute, completing an addiction-focused research project, and participating in monthly webinars and other professional development activities.
