About This Scholarship

If you are a female high school student graduating from an Oregon or Washington school this spring with a GPA of 2.5 or above and intend to enroll in a trade school, college or university in the fall, Abby’s Closet encourages you to submit an application for this scholarship. This year, four scholarships totaling $9,500 will be given out. One $1,500 scholarship for trade school students, one $2,000 scholarship for community college students, and one $3,000 award for those enrolling in 4-year colleges or universities. An additional $3,000 in scholarships will be given to students pursuing careers in the healthcare industry. The scholarship award will go to the applicant in each category who best represents the values and goals of Abby’s Closet.

Eligibility Criteria For Abby’s Closet Dreams Scholarship

Here are some common eligibility criteria that you may find for scholarships related to trade and vocational fields:

 

  • Field of Study: Trade-related scholarships are generally available to students pursuing vocational or trade programs in various fields, such as construction, automotive technology, electrical work, plumbing, welding, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), carpentry, culinary arts, cosmetology, or other skilled trades.
  • Academic Achievement: While academic achievement is still considered, trade-related scholarships may focus more on the applicant’s technical skills and practical abilities rather than traditional academic performance. Some scholarships may have minimum academic requirements or specific technical skill assessments.
  • Career Goals: Some scholarships may have preferences for students who have clear career goals in a specific trade or vocational field. This can include individuals who intend to pursue a career as an electrician, plumber, automotive technician, welder, chef, hairstylist, or other trade professions.
  • Recommendations: Applicants may be required to submit letters of recommendation from instructors, employers, or professionals in the trade field who can speak to their skills, work ethic, and potential in the trade industry.
  • Personal Statement/Essay: Many scholarship applications include an essay or personal statement where applicants can express their passion for their chosen trade, career goals, relevant experiences, and how the scholarship would support their education and training.
