About This Scholarship

The 4-H Youth In Action Awards are a national recognition program that honors young people who have made a significant impact in their communities through 4-H programs. 4-H is a youth development organization that operates in all 50 states in the United States and provides a range of educational programs and resources for young people.

The 4-H Youth In Action Awards recognize four young people each year in four different categories: Agriculture, Civic Engagement, Healthy Living, and STEM. Each category winner receives a $5,000 scholarship to support their education and continued development.

Nominations for the 4-H Youth In Action Awards are typically accepted in the fall, and winners are announced in the spring. The award ceremony takes place at the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility Criteria For 4-H Youth In Action Awards

The eligibility criteria for the 4-H Youth in Action Awards, which are given annually to recognize and reward outstanding young people who have made significant contributions in their communities, are as follows:

  • The applicant must be a current 4-H member between the ages of 15 and 19.
  • The applicant must have completed a 4-H project in one of four program areas: agriculture, civic engagement, healthy living, or STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
  • The applicant must have demonstrated leadership skills and made significant contributions to their community through their 4-H project.
  • The applicant must have presented their project at a 4-H event, fair, or competition at the local, state, or national level.
  • The applicant must be available to attend the National 4-H Council’s Legacy Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in the fall, if selected as a finalist.

In addition to meeting these eligibility criteria, award recipients are selected based on their 4-H project, their leadership skills and community impact, and their communication and public speaking abilities. The application deadline is typically in the spring, and award recipients are notified in the summer.
