About This Scholarship

Iowa’s Best Award This award promotes diversity and is available to first-year students who are citizens or legal residents of the United States. Based on merit (standardised exam results and GPA), the prize is given. For entering first-year students who are not Iowans, the University of Iowa offers the Advantage Iowa Award. Students from historically underrepresented groups at the University of Iowa or participation in an Upward Bound programme are required to apply. These groups include Alaska Native, American Indian/Native American, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and two or more underrepresented races. Another criterion is merit. Winners are required to enrol full-time and uphold a 2.0 minimum GPA.

Eligibility Criteria For Advantage Iowa Award

Here are some common eligibility requirements that are often considered for financial need scholarships:

  • Demonstrated Financial Need: Financial need scholarships are typically awarded to students who can demonstrate a significant financial need. This is often assessed by reviewing the applicant’s family income, assets, and other financial resources. Applicants may be required to submit financial aid applications, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), to provide documentation of their financial situation.
  • Income Level: Many financial need scholarships consider the applicant’s household income as a primary factor in determining financial need. This includes the total income earned by the applicant’s family members, including parents or guardians.
  • Financial Assets: In addition to income, financial aid programs may also assess the applicant’s financial assets, such as savings accounts, investments, and property ownership. Higher levels of assets may affect eligibility for certain programs.
  • Dependents: Financial need scholarships may consider the number of dependents in the applicant’s family. Having dependents, such as children or elderly family members, may increase financial need.
  • Expenses and Debt: The applicant’s existing financial obligations and debts, such as medical expenses, outstanding loans, or other significant expenses, may be evaluated to determine financial need.
