About This Scholarship

The Also-Known-As Adoptee Excellence Scholarship is a scholarship program that provides financial assistance to international adoptees who have demonstrated excellence in their academic and personal achievements, and who have a commitment to giving back to their communities. The scholarship program is administered by Also-Known-As, Inc., which is a non-profit organization that provides support and resources to adoptees and their families.

The Also-Known-As Adoptee Excellence Scholarship offers multiple scholarships of up to $5,000 each to eligible international adoptees who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in the United States. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, demonstrate financial need, and submit an essay that discusses their personal and academic achievements, as well as their goals for the future.

Eligibility Criteria For Also-Known-As Adoptee Excellence Scholarship

The eligibility criteria for the Also-Known-As Adoptee Excellence Scholarship are as follows:

  • Applicants must have been adopted from a foreign country to the United States.
  • Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate student who will be enrolled full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States in the fall of the academic year following their application.
  • All the applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills, community involvement, and academic excellence.
  • Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 750 words that discusses their experience as an adoptee and how their personal and academic accomplishments have been influenced by their adoption.
  • Applicants must provide their high school or college transcript and one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or community leader.

It is important to note that the scholarship program is open to all eligible students regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Additionally, applicants do not need to be members of the Also-Known-As organization to apply for the scholarship.
