About This Scholarship

The Billy Welu Scholarship is a bowling scholarship awarded annually by the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) in honor of the late PBA Hall of Famer, Billy Welu. The scholarship is intended to recognize outstanding college students who excel both academically and on the bowling lanes. The scholarship was created to honor a college student each year who excels in both their scholastic studies and their bowling game. The late Welu was best known for his insightful analysis on the well-liked “Pro Bowlers Tour” series with renowned ABC broadcaster and PBA Hall of Famer Chris Schenkel. Welu was a two-time PBA Tour winner and a member of the group of individuals inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1975.

Each year, the Professional Bowlers Association Billy Welu Scholarship is given to a college student who participates in the activity of bowling and demonstrates exceptional qualities. The scholarship is awarded based on a combination of academic achievement, bowling accomplishments, and leadership potential. The scholarship amount may vary each year, but typically ranges from $1,000 to $2,500.
