About This Scholarship

The Brower Youth Awards is an annual awards program that recognizes and supports young people who are making significant contributions to environmental and social justice causes in North America. The awards are named in honor of David Brower, a renowned environmentalist and founder of many of the most influential environmental organizations in the United States.

The Brower Youth Awards is open to individuals between the ages of 13 and 22 who are actively engaged in environmental and social justice advocacy in their communities. Each year, six young leaders are selected to receive the award, which includes a $3,000 cash prize, a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area for a week-long leadership retreat, and access to a network of other young environmental and social justice activists.

The Brower Youth Awards program is designed to recognize and support the next generation of environmental and social justice leaders, and to inspire other young people to get involved in advocacy and activism in their own communities. The program is sponsored by the New Leaders Initiative, a program of the Earth Island Institute.
