The Chief Larry Williams Scholarship recognizes Chief Williams’ over three decades of service to the people of York County, Bethesda Fire Department, and South Carolina’s fire service. To recognize the commitment and love that Chief Williams showed to the people of York County, the Bethesda Fire Department, and South Carolina’s fire service, his family established an annual scholarship.
Once the application period closes the Foundation Chairman or his designee will review the applications. The Foundation Board will electronically send all completed applications and review them to decide who will receive the scholarship. The Foundation will communicate its choice to the Williams family. The Foundation Board and Chief Williams’ family can provide one or more scholarships as agreed.
Applicants should complete the online application via its website to include a letter of support from their fire chief and a letter of support from anyone of their choice. The South Carolina State Firefighters’ Foundation will assess each submission, and a member of the Williams family will review the finalist(s).
The applicant must scan and include two letters of recommendation with their application: one from their fire chief and one from a reference of their choosing. In order for the foundation to provide statistics about applicants and awardees, applicants will also be required to submit a statistical form with all applications. The award recipients will not be chosen using this information.
