The scholarship program is named in honor of Colonel Kathleen Swacina, the first woman to command a tactical airlift squadron in the U.S. Air Force.

Eligibility Criteria For Colonel Kathleen Scholarship

The Colonel Kathleen Swacina Scholarship is offered by the Women in Defense Greater Tampa Bay Chapter to support women pursuing careers in defense and national security. The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are as follows:

  • Gender: Applicants must identify as female.
  • Enrollment: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Field of Study: Applicants must be pursuing a degree in a field related to defense or national security, such as engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, intelligence studies, or international relations.
  • Academic Achievement: All the applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for this.
  • Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the US for this scholarship.
  • Essay: Applicants must submit a 500- to 750-word essay on the topic of “The Importance of Diversity and Inclusion in the Defense and National Security Industry.”
