About This Scholarship

The Linda Walge Penman Scholarship was created in 2006 in Linda Walge’s honour, who was a devoted supporter of Delaware libraries. Its goal is to foster the growth of aspiring authors and librarians while raising awareness of the many opportunities available in the professions of writing and librarianship. The successful student will also have the chance to attend the annual Delaware Library Association Conference in addition to receiving the prize.

Candidates must be Delaware-resident high school juniors or seniors who want to pursue careers in writing or librarianship. Candidates must submit a 500–750 word essay showcasing their abilities to create a well–organized, persuasive argument and outlining their interests in the field(s) of writing and/or librarianship. Additionally, candidates must provide one letter of recommendation from a professor.
