About This Scholarship

VSAC supports students of all ages in their efforts to plan, budget, and pay for their education and training. More than 120 scholarships for Vermont citizens are administered by VSAC. And we want to inspire you to apply. Friends, family, and coworkers of Carol Hurley, a VSAC outreach counsellor who assisted first-generation college-bound kids with their college preparation, created this scholarship in her honour.

Eligibility Criteria For Emily Lester Vermont Opportunity Scholarship

Here are some general factors that are often considered:

  • Residency: Most VSAC scholarships are available to Vermont residents. Applicants are typically required to be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and must provide proof of Vermont residency.
  • Academic Performance: VSAC scholarships may consider academic achievement as an important criterion. Applicants may be required to have a minimum GPA or meet certain academic standards. Strong performance in high school or college coursework can be advantageous.
  • Financial Need: Many VSAC scholarships are need-based, which means they consider the applicant’s financial situation. Students may be required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine their financial need. Some scholarships may have additional financial need assessment requirements.
  • Field of Study: Scholarships offered by VSAC may be specific to certain fields of study or open to a broad range of disciplines. Some scholarships are targeted towards specific career paths or academic programs.
  • Enrollment Status: The eligibility requirements may differ based on whether the scholarship is for high school seniors, undergraduate students, or graduate students. Some scholarships may be open to students attending full-time or part-time.
  • Community Involvement and Leadership: VSAC scholarships may value applicants who have demonstrated involvement in their community or displayed leadership qualities. Participation in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or leadership roles in school or community organizations can strengthen an application.
  • Recommendations: Some VSAC scholarships may require letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or community members who can speak to the applicant’s character, achievements, or potential.
  • Additional Criteria: Specific VSAC scholarships may have additional eligibility requirements based on factors such as career goals, intended college or university, academic major, or personal circumstances.
