About This Scholarship

If you’re a graduating African-American high school senior from Rockford Public Schools, consider applying for the Era L. and Frances L. Walker Scholarship. This scholarship is specifically available to African-American male high school seniors who have actively participated in community service and volunteer work. The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL) is responsible for offering this scholarship. As a prominent philanthropy organization in the region, CFNIL provides grants to charitable organizations and scholarships to local students. The Era L. and Frances L. Walker Scholarships are one of the many scholarships offered by CFNIL, and it’s named after Era Louis Walker and his wife Frances, who were married for 61 years. The era was a dedicated Rockford Head Start program employee who transported children to and from the program for 37 years. In recognition of his contributions, this scholarship awards up to $10,000 annually to multiple African-American high school seniors graduating from a Rockford Public Schools high school in Michigan.

Eligibility Criteria For Era L. and Frances L. Walker Scholarship

  • African-American Male High School Seniors: To be eligible for the Era L. and Frances L. Walker Scholarship, you must be an African-American male high school senior. This means that you identify as male and have an African-American heritage.
  • Graduating from a Rockford Public Schools High School in Michigan: Another eligibility requirement is that you are graduating from a Rockford Public Schools high school in Michigan. This means that you attend or have attended a high school in Michigan’s Rockford Public Schools district.
  • Involved in Community Service and Volunteerism: In addition to the above requirements, you must also have demonstrated involvement in community service and volunteerism. This means that you have actively participated in activities that benefit your community and have volunteered your time to help others.
