About This Scholarship

The George Watt Essay Contest is an annual writing competition that is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are studying the Russian language and culture. The contest is organized by the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR) and honors the memory of George Watt, a longtime supporter of the ACTR.

To enter the contest, students are required to submit an essay in Russian on a given topic. The topics are usually related to Russian literature, culture, history, or current events. The essays are judged on the quality of the writing, the depth of analysis, and the originality of the ideas presented.

Winners of the George Watt Essay Contest receive cash prizes and have their essays published in the ACTR’s publication, Russian Language Journal. The contest is a great opportunity for students to showcase their writing skills and knowledge of Russian language and culture.

If you are interested in participating in the George Watt Essay Contest, you can find more information on the ACTR website. The deadline for entries is usually in early December, and winners are announced in the following spring.
