About This Scholarship

The Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship is a merit-based award given to female students who demonstrate excellent character, leadership qualities, and potential to be strong contributors to society. The Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship is a program awarded annually by the American Statistical Association (ASA). The scholarship is designed to support women pursuing graduate degrees in statistics or biostatistics. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students through a $1000 award, which can be used to cover tuition, fees, and other educational expenses. In addition to the monetary award, recipients of the Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship also receive a one-year ASA membership, which provides access to a range of professional development and networking opportunities. The Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship can help students in several ways. Firstly, it can help offset tuition and other educational expenses, which can significantly burden many students. By providing financial assistance, the scholarship can help to make graduate education more accessible and affordable for women pursuing degrees in statistics or biostatistics. Secondly, the scholarship can provide opportunities for professional development and networking.

  • As a recipient of the scholarship, students will have access to the ASA’s network of statisticians and other professionals in the field, which can provide valuable mentorship and guidance as they pursue their graduate studies and begin their careers. Finally, the scholarship can help improve women’s representation in statistics by developing an important pipeline for future statisticians.
  • To qualify for the Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program in statistics or biostatistics at an accredited university or college.
  • Recipients must also have completed their first year of graduate studies and plan to pursue doctoral degrees in the next academic year.
