About This Scholarship

The Hope Scholarship, also known as the HOPE Program, is a scholarship program in the United States that provides merit-based financial assistance to eligible students who are pursuing a post-secondary education. The program was created in 1993 as part of the Georgia Lottery for Education Act and is available to students who attend eligible colleges and universities in Georgia.

The Hope Scholarship covers tuition and fees at eligible colleges and universities in Georgia, and recipients may receive the scholarship for up to 127 credit hours or until they receive a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

In addition to the Hope Scholarship, there are other scholarship and financial aid programs available to students in Georgia, such as the Zell Miller Scholarship and the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant.

Eligibility Criteria For Hope Scholarship

The Hope Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program that provides financial assistance to students who are pursuing undergraduate degrees at eligible colleges and universities in Georgia. The scholarship is intended to support students who have demonstrated academic achievement and who are committed to completing their degrees.

To be eligible for the Hope Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a legal resident of Georgia and a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have graduated from a Georgia high school or earned a GED.
  • Be enrolled or planning to enroll in an eligible college or university in Georgia.
  • Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 or a minimum college GPA of 3.0 if already enrolled in college.
  • Meet certain academic rigor requirements, including completing certain high school courses in core subjects with a minimum grade of B.
  • Meet certain enrollment requirements, including enrolling in an eligible degree program and maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
  • Not have exceeded the maximum number of credit hours allowed under the scholarship program.
