About This Scholarship

The JDC Archives, which is an institution that is home to one of the most important collections in the nation for the study of modern Jewish history, is the one that provides funding for the JDC Archives Fellowships. JDC Archives Fellowships are given out annually to graduate students, post-doctoral students, and independent academics interested in the JDC’s historical riches. Each fellowship is worth up to $5,000. To apply for the fellowship, you must apply, along with a letter of recommendation from your academic advisor, to the JDC Archives.

Eligibility Criteria For JDC Archives Fellowships

  • Academic Credentials: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or be advanced Ph.D. candidates in relevant fields such as history, Jewish studies, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Research Topic: Fellowships are awarded to those who propose projects that draw on the JDC Archives’ collections, including topics related to Jewish history, humanitarian aid, migration, and international relations.
  • Professional Experience: Applicants must have demonstrated research skills, academic achievement, and a record of interest in the history of Jewish communities or humanitarian work.
  • Language Proficiency: Applicants must be proficient in the relevant languages for their research, such as English, Hebrew, Yiddish, French, German, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese.
  • Residency Requirements: Fellowships are open to scholars worldwide, but they must be able to conduct their research at the JDC Archives in New York City for the duration of their fellowship.
  • Application Requirements: Applicants must submit a research proposal, CV, academic transcripts, and two letters of recommendation as part of their application package.
  • Fellowship Duration and Funding: The JDC Archives offers short-term and long-term fellowships with varying amounts of funding. Fellows are expected to contribute to the JDC Archives through presentations, publications, or other means.
