This scholarship honors the memory of the late Jim Borden, the managing editor of Trib Total Media, encouraging the next generation of journalists to carry Jim’s legacy of unwavering passion and integrity in their work. The scholarship offers up to $30,000 ($7,500 per year), a summer internship at Trib Total Media, and a full-time job offer upon graduation to one deserving student.

Eligibility Criteria For Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship

  • Location: The scholarship is open to students from Western Pennsylvania. Specifically, students who reside in Allegheny, Westmoreland, Armstrong, and Butler counties may apply.
  • Academic Focus: The scholarship is intended for students majoring in journalism, English writing, or communications. Applicants must be either incoming or current college students pursuing one of these majors.
  • Additional Requirements: The scholarship committee will evaluate applicants based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Applicants should also demonstrate a commitment to journalism and a desire to pursue a career in the field. The scholarship is merit-based, so applicants must have a strong academic record and be able to provide evidence of their achievements.
