The Kaplun Essay Contest is an annual scholarship essay contest for Jewish students in the United States and Canada. It was established in 1955 by Morris J. Kaplun, a prominent Jewish leader who sought to promote Jewish education and inspire young people to think critically about important issues affecting the Jewish community and society at large.
The contest is open to students in grades 7-12 and college undergraduate students. Each year, contestants are asked to write an essay on a specific topic related to Jewish values, history, or culture. The essay prompt changes each year, but it always requires contestants to engage in critical thinking and articulate their thoughts clearly and persuasively.
Winners of the contest receive a cash prize to help with their education expenses. The contest is administered by the Morris J. and Betty Kaplun Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports Jewish education and community organizations.
