About This Scholarship

If you’re a DVM/VMD student passionate about poultry medicine, consider applying for the L. Dwight Schwartz Travel Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students enrolled in an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine who have shown an interest in poultry medicine through a project, work experience, previous coursework, or a desire to attend an AAAP meeting.  The L. Dwight Schwartz Travel Scholarship is a scholarship offered by the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) to students who are enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) program at an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine. The scholarship is designed to support students who have a demonstrated interest in poultry medicine and want to attend the AAAP Annual Meeting. The American Association of Avian Pathologists is an international organization dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge to enhance poultry’s health, well-being, and productivity to provide safe and abundant food for the world. The AAAP Annual Meeting allows professionals and students interested in avian health to share knowledge, learn about the latest research, and network with others in the field. The American Association of Avian Pathologists, an international organization dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge to improve poultry’s health, well-being, and productivity for safe and plentiful food, offers the scholarship.

  • Each year, one fortunate student can receive up to $1,500 to cover travel expenses to attend the American Association of Avian Pathologists Annual Meeting. This scholarship is awarded to attract veterinary students passionate about poultry medicine, and it’s open to both juniors and seniors.
  • The scholarship is funded by the L. Dwight Schwartz Fund and is named in memory of Dr. Schwartz, a highly respected poultry practitioner. To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit a short essay describing why you are interested in avian pathologists, what you’d like to take away from the meeting, and a statement of why you should win this award.
  • The winner will also be asked to give an oral presentation at the meeting on a topic relating to poultry medicine that they’ve researched and prepared ahead of time.
