About This Scholarship

When choosing the right college for you, numerous factors must be considered. While your father may strongly prefer his alma mater, you may have a different reason for considering it – legacy scholarships. These scholarships promote a family tradition of attending a particular university and offer financial support for college. Many universities provide scholarships for family members of alums, and the eligibility for the legacy scholarship may extend to children, stepchildren, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews, depending on the institution. If you are a female who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. Army and pursuing a postsecondary education, the Legacy Scholarship Program might interest you. The program offers scholarships to women in a postsecondary educational institution who have served or are serving in the U.S. Army. In addition, descendants of Army women attending a university can also apply and will be assessed separately. The Army Women’s Foundation (AWF) administers the scholarship program, which recognizes and supports women soldiers in achieving their educational goals.

  • AWF honors and promotes army women, inspiring the nation. Scholarship recipients can receive up to $3,000 annually to cover their tuition, fees, books, and room and board, subject to selection.
  • AWF also provides up to two additional $3000 awards to women who have been wounded while in the service and veterans who are attending school to acquire the necessary skills.
  • Additionally, military spouses may apply. Candidates must be full-time students and active-duty Army, Navy, or Air Force members. They must also be enrolled in a postsecondary educational institution that has a senior associate dean for admissions for students receiving federal aid.

Eligibility Criteria For Legacy Scholarship Program

  • Military Service: Army women enrolled or accepted into a full-time post-secondary educational institution with a senior associate dean for admissions for students receiving federal aid.
  • Military Service: Descendants of Army women attending a university can also apply and be assessed separately.
  • Educational Pursuits: They must be full-time students and active-duty Army, Navy, or Air Force members.
  • Eligibility for Women with Disabilities: Military Spouses may apply for a scholarship. They must be full-time students and active-duty Army, Navy, or Air Force members.
  • Women in Uniform:  Army women enrolled or accepted into a full-time post-secondary educational institution with a senior associate dean for admissions for students receiving federal aid.
  • Lineage:  Army women attending a university can also apply and will be assessed separately.
  • Evaluation Process:  Army women must be full-time students and active duty members of the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
  • Application Process:  Students attend an open house at the university where they are considering, and a panel of faculty volunteers assesses them. Based on this assessment, schools with a Legacy Scholarship Program develop a plan to fill their scholarships.
