Len and Alta were missionaries in Monrovia, Liberia, a country in west Africa, after being married. After moving back to Nebraska, Leonard raised their three children and served in a number of United Methodist congregations. In 1977, Leonard left the ministry. Later, Len worked for ALPO in Crete and started his own business as an insurance agent. Len was a master mason, a farmer, and a Nebraska Civil Air Patrol major in addition to serving in the church.
