About This Scholarship

The Luce Scholars Program is a highly competitive fellowship program that provides funding and professional development opportunities for young Americans to live and work in Asia for one year. The program is designed to enhance the understanding of Asia among future leaders in the United States and to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the U.S. and Asia.

The Luce Scholars Program is open to college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals under the age of 30 who have limited exposure to Asia and who possess a record of high achievement, outstanding leadership ability, and an interest in Asia. The program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in one of 18 countries across Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

Eligibility Criteria For Luce Scholars Program

The Luce Scholars Program is a highly competitive fellowship program that provides opportunities for young leaders to spend a year in Asia, working in their field of interest. To be eligible for the Luce Scholars Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be under the age of 30 on July 1 of the year they apply
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by the time the fellowship begins
  • Have limited experience living or working in Asia, defined as less than 12 weeks of travel or work experience in the region since completing their undergraduate degree
  • Have demonstrated leadership and academic achievement in their field of interest
  • In addition to these eligibility criteria, the Luce Scholars Program is designed for applicants who have had limited exposure to Asia and who are interested in pursuing a career related to the region. The program is open to candidates from all academic and professional backgrounds, but applicants must be able to articulate how their background and interests will contribute to their success as a Luce Scholar.
