About This Scholarship

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Merit Scholarship is an annual program that awards multiple scholarships to blind and visually impaired students who are pursuing a full-time course of study at an accredited college or university in the USA. The NFB Merit Scholarship program aims to support the academic and career aspirations of blind and visually impaired students and promote the inclusion of blind individuals in all aspects of society.

The scholarship awards range from $3,000 to $12,000 per recipient and can be used to cover tuition, fees, room and board, textbooks, and other educational expenses. Eligibility Criteria For National Federation of the Blind Merit Scholarship

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Merit Scholarship program offers financial assistance to outstanding blind students who are pursuing a full-time postsecondary course of study. The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are as follows:

  • Applicants must be legally blind (defined as having vision of 20/200 or less in the better eye with correction, or having a visual field of less than 20 degrees).
  • Applicants must be pursuing a full-time postsecondary course of study at an accredited institution in the United States.
  • Applicants must be willing to participate in the NFB national convention and other NFB events and activities.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  • Applicants must be pursuing or planning to pursue a degree in any field except for theology or religious education.
  • Applicants must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to meeting these criteria, applicants must also submit an application form, official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and proof of legal blindness. The selection process is competitive, and scholarship recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and community involvement.
