About This Scholarship

A scholarship essay competition with a total prize pool of $15,000 is being held by the Sacramento Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility for graduating students in Northern California’s Sacramento County and neighboring counties.. You must choose the kind of difference you want to make because what you do matters. 

Eligibility Criteria For PSR/Sacramento High School Scholarship Essay Contest

Students who wish to participate in the PSR/Sacramento Scholarship Essay Contest must write an original essay of no more than 500 words in which they discuss the following quote by Dr. Jane Goodall, a well-known British primatologist, environmentalist, and animal rights advocate: “You cannot go through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. Although, some general eligibility criteria that are commonly considered for scholarships:

  • Academic performance: Many scholarships consider academic achievements such as GPA (Grade Point Average) or standardized test scores (e.g., SAT, ACT). Some scholarships may have minimum requirements for academic performance.
  • Financial need: Some scholarships are need-based and require students to demonstrate financial need. This may involve submitting financial information, such as income and expenses, to determine eligibility.
  • Field of study: Certain scholarships may be restricted to specific fields of study, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), arts, or business. Applicants pursuing a particular course of study may be given preference.
  • Community involvement: Scholarships often value students who have demonstrated active participation and leadership in extracurricular activities, community service, or volunteering.
  • Demographic criteria: Some scholarships may have specific eligibility requirements based on demographic factors such as gender, ethnicity, nationality, or citizenship status. These criteria aim to promote diversity and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups.
