About This Scholarship

The Rising Black Designers Scholarship is a scholarship program that provides financial support to Black students who are pursuing a career in design. The scholarship is designed to help offset the high costs of education and support the development of future Black design leaders. The scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students who meet the eligibility criteria and who have submitted a completed application. The scholarship amount varies each year and can range from $2,500 to $10,000. The scholarship funds can be used to cover tuition, fees, books, and other educational expenses related to the recipient’s design program.

The application process typically includes a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and a portfolio of the applicant’s design work. The scholarship committee may also conduct interviews with finalists to learn more about their goals and aspirations in the field of design.

Eligibility Criteria For Rising Black Designers Scholarship

The eligibility criteria for the Rising Black Designers Scholarship, which is awarded annually to support Black students pursuing a degree in design or a related field, are as follows:

  • The applicant must identify as Black or of African descent.
  • The applicant must be a current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a design or design-related program at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • The applicant must have completed at least one year of coursework in their design program.
  • The applicant must submit a portfolio of their design work, along with a personal statement outlining their academic and career goals, their financial need, and how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals.

In addition to meeting these eligibility criteria, scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, design talent, leadership potential, and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the design industry. The scholarship amount is $2,500, and the application deadline is typically in the spring. Scholarship recipients are notified in the summer.
