About This Scholarship

Black and African American students attending an accredited college can receive a scholarship of up to $40,000. This grant is given to students that can attend college to pursue their educational goals. Suppose you’re a high school senior who identifies as Black or African American and is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and are interested in global entrepreneurship and community engagement. In that case, you might want to consider applying for the Ron Brown scholarship. The scholarship aims to support intellectually gifted African Americans committed to positively impacting their communities. It provides $40,000 in total over four years ($10,000 annually) to 45-50 recipients annually. To be eligible, you must plan to attend an accredited four-year university in the United States, and you’ll need to submit two 500-word essays, transcripts, and two letters of recommendation as part of your application.

Eligibility Criteria For Ron Brown Scholarship

  • Citizenship and Ethnicity: To be eligible for the Ron Brown scholarship, you must be a Black or African American U.S. citizen or permanent resident. This means that you must have documentation proving your citizenship or permanent residency status.
  • Academic Level: To apply for the scholarship, you must be a high school senior. This means that you must be in your final year of high school, with plans to graduate at the end of the academic year.
  • Academic Performance: The Ron Brown scholarship is designed for intellectually gifted students who demonstrate a strong commitment to their communities. Therefore, you must have a strong academic record for the scholarship. This means that you should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and you should be able to provide transcripts that demonstrate your academic performance.
  • Interests and Goals: The Ron Brown scholarship is awarded to students interested in global entrepreneurship and community engagement. Therefore, you should demonstrate that you have a genuine passion for one or both of these areas and have taken steps to pursue your interests. This might include volunteering in your community, participating in entrepreneurship programs, or conducting research in these areas.
  • College Plans: To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be planning on attending an accredited four-year university in the United States. You should be able to provide information about the schools you are considering, and you should be prepared to explain why you have chosen these institutions.
