About This Scholarship

The Ruth Mitchell Hanson Scholarship was created to help gifted Saginaw County kids who want to be musicians. Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered: they must be Saginaw County high school seniors, have a 3.25 GPA, and be full-time undergraduate music students.

Every community’s development and future depend heavily on education. After that, the Saginaw Community Foundation manages numerous scholarship programs for students in high school, community colleges, universities, and vocational schools.

Eligibility Criteria For Ruth Mitchell Hanson Scholarship

Here are some common eligibility factors considered for musicians:

  • Skill Level: Many opportunities, such as music scholarships or competitions, may have specific requirements related to the musician’s skill level. This can range from beginner to advanced, depending on the nature of the opportunity.
  • Instrument or Voice Type: Certain opportunities may be specific to particular instruments or vocal types. For example, there may be scholarships or auditions available for specific instruments like piano, violin, or voice.
  • Age: Some programs may have age restrictions or specific age categories. This can include opportunities for young musicians or those in specific age groups (e.g., youth orchestras or age-based music competitions).
  • Education Level: Some opportunities, such as music scholarships or grants, may require applicants to be currently enrolled in a music program at the high school, undergraduate, or graduate level. Others may be open to musicians of all educational backgrounds.
  • Citizenship or Residency: Some opportunities may be limited to U.S. citizens or residents, while others may be open to international musicians as well. This can vary depending on the specific program or competition.
  • Audition or Portfolio Submission: Many music programs or scholarships require applicants to submit an audition recording or portfolio demonstrating their musical abilities. The specific requirements and guidelines for the audition or portfolio submission will vary depending on the opportunity.
  • Academic Performance: Some music scholarships or programs may consider the applicant’s academic performance in addition to their musical abilities. This can include factors such as GPA or standardized test scores.
