About This Scholarship

Family and friends created the Carolyn Balsa Hancock Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Carolyn Hancock, a passionate counsellor and educator who was always willing to help the kids confronting the most challenging obstacles. Mrs. Hancock, a native of San Jose, California, worked for the East Side Union High School District where she created initiatives to assist students with disabilities in finding and keeping employment.

The East Side Union High School District seniors in Special Education are eligible for the award, which may be used for academic or vocational training. The prize is awarded to the applicant who most closely exemplifies Mrs. Hancock’s remarkable zest for life, work ethic, and fortitude in the face of insurmountable challenges. Candidates must be enrolled in the East Side Union High School Special Education Programme.

Eligibility Criteria For SVCF Carolyn Balsa Hancock Memorial Scholarship

Here are some common factors that are often considered for vocational training scholarships:

  • Field of Study: Vocational training scholarships typically target specific vocational or technical programs. The scholarship may be specific to a particular trade, skill, or industry. Therefore, eligibility may require enrollment or plans to enroll in a vocational program that aligns with the scholarship’s focus.
  • Career Goals and Aspirations: Scholarships may prioritize applicants who can demonstrate a genuine interest in the chosen vocational field and have clear career goals and aspirations within that field. This can be done through essays, personal statements, or letters of recommendation that highlight the applicant’s passion, dedication, and commitment.
  • Academic Achievement: While vocational training scholarships may not focus solely on academic performance, some programs may require a minimum GPA or academic achievement as part of the eligibility criteria.
  • Work Experience or Extracurricular Activities: Some scholarships may value applicants who have relevant work experience, internships, or volunteer experience in their chosen vocational field. Active participation in related clubs, organizations, or extracurricular activities can also be beneficial.
