About This Scholarship

By way of Ms. Kinch’s bequest, the SVCF K.C. Kinch Scholarship was created in 2017 in her honour. The scholarship’s goal is to give eligible students financial support for their college-related expenses. The screening committee looks for evidence of financial necessity as well as academic promise. Residents of East Palo Alto who exhibit academic success and financial hardship are eligible for the scholarship.

Candidates must be East Palo Alto residents who are now graduating high school seniors or high school graduates who lived there while they were in high school and who want to attend or are already attending a two- or four-year college, university, or technical school full-time.

Eligibility Criteria For SVCF K.C. Kinch Scholarship

Here are some common factors that are often considered:

  • Academic Performance: While not all financial support scholarships focus solely on academic performance, some programs may have minimum GPA requirements or consider academic achievements as part of the eligibility criteria.
  • Field of Study: Certain scholarships may be limited to specific fields of study or academic disciplines. They may prioritize students pursuing particular majors or areas of study aligned with the scholarship’s mission.
  • Personal Circumstances: Some scholarships for financial support may consider personal circumstances such as being a first-generation college student, overcoming significant challenges or adversity, or belonging to underrepresented or marginalized communities.
  • Community Involvement or Leadership: Scholarships may value applicants who have demonstrated involvement in their community, leadership skills, or participation in extracurricular activities. This can include volunteer work, clubs, organizations, or leadership roles in school or community settings.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Some scholarships may require letters of recommendation from teachers, mentors, or community leaders who can speak to the applicant’s character, accomplishments, and financial need.
  • Essay or Personal Statement: Many financial support scholarships require applicants to submit essays or personal statements where they can describe their financial need, educational goals, career aspirations, and how the scholarship would make a difference in their lives.
