About This Scholarship

A student who is Hispanic American and has at least one parent who is Hispanic or of Hispanic American background is eligible to apply for the Leo and Trinidad Sanchez Scholarship Fund. A current high school senior or undergraduate student at West Valley College participating in a programme leading to a degree in architecture, or in any architectural school on a full-time or part-time basis, must be a current resident of Santa Clara County or Santa Cruz County.

Gil Sanchez created this scholarship in honour of and in remembrance of his parents, Leo and Trini Sanchez, who immigrated to the US from Mexico in the 1910s. Up until World War II, when they both got jobs in Richmond manufacturing ‘Liberty’ cargo, they picked crops throughout Central California.

Eligibility Criteria For SVCF Leo and Trinidad Sanchez Scholarship

Here are some common factors that are often considered for architecture scholarships:

  • Enrollment in Architecture Program: Most architecture scholarships are specifically for students who are enrolled in or planning to enroll in an accredited architecture program. This can include undergraduate programs, graduate programs, or professional degrees in architecture.
  • Academic Achievement: Architecture scholarships may consider academic performance as part of the eligibility criteria. This can include minimum GPA requirements or recognition of academic excellence in architecture-related coursework.
  • Field of Architecture: Some scholarships target students pursuing specific areas or specialties within architecture. They may prioritize applicants interested in sustainable design, urban planning, historic preservation, or other specific aspects of architecture.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Architecture scholarships may require letters of recommendation from professors, mentors, or professionals in the field who can speak to the applicant’s architectural abilities, creativity, and potential for success.
  • Personal Statements or Essays: Many architecture scholarships require applicants to submit personal statements or essays that express their passion for architecture, their design philosophy, and their future goals as an architect.
