Eligibility Criteria For The Gates Scholarship

  • Be a high school senior: You must be a high school senior at the time of applying for the scholarship.
  • Be a US citizen, national, or permanent resident: You must be a US citizen, national, or PR, and you must provide a copy of your birth certificate or passport to confirm your citizenship status.
  • Be of an ethnic minority: You must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3: You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or an equivalent standard.
  • Demonstrate financial need: You must demonstrate significant financial need, which means that your family’s annual household income is less than the adjusted gross income (AGI) of $85,000 or less on the IRS tax form, or you qualify for free or reduced-price lunch program, fee waivers, or other similar programs.
  • Plan to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program: You must plan to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at an accredited college or university in the United States.
