About This Scholarship

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program (SMART stands for Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) is a scholarship program funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). It aims to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

The program offers full tuition coverage, stipends, and other benefits to recipients who agree to work for the DoD as civilian employees for a period equal to the length of their scholarship after graduation. During their studies, recipients are also given opportunities to participate in summer internships and research collaborations with DoD laboratories and agencies.

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is highly competitive, and the application process typically opens in August and closes in December. Applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria, such as being a U.S. citizen, having a minimum GPA of 3.0, and being enrolled or accepted into a STEM program at a participating university. For more information, interested applicants can visit the SMART Scholarship website.
