About This Scholarship

The Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship was created in 2021 to promote diversity in the area of broadcast journalism and to pay tribute to the late Wes Vernon, a longtime radio journalist and former member of the National Press Club. A student who exhibits a commitment to a career in broadcast journalism will receive $5,000 per year from the award.

Like their professional counterparts, student journalists are committed to reporting their communities across platforms. It’s not always rewarding to juggle activities related to journalism, part-time employment, and classes. Four scholarships honouring aspiring future journalists serving their communities are administered by the National Press Club and NPC Journalism Institute, which is honoured to do so. The Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship is now accepting applications through the National Press Club and the Journalism Institute.
