About This Scholarship

The Upakar Indian-American Scholarship is a scholarship program designed to support Indian-American students who are pursuing higher education in the United States. The scholarship was created in 2007 by a group of Indian-American professionals to help alleviate the financial burden of higher education for Indian-American students.

Eligibility Criteria For Upakar Indian-American Scholarship

To be eligible for the Upakar Indian-American Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • All the applicants must be of Indian origin and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and they should be a graduating high school senior or a current undergraduate student at an accredited college or university in the United States
  • They must have a minimum GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale and should demonstrate financial need and must be involved in extracurricular activities and/or community service.

In addition to meeting the above criteria, applicants must submit an application form, official transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a copy of their FAFSA Student Aid Report. The personal statement should describe the applicant’s background, career goals, and how they plan to use their education to give back to the Indian-American community.

The scholarship amount varies each year and can range from $2,000 to $5,000. The scholarship money is paid directly to the student’s college or university to help cover the cost of tuition, books, and other expenses.
