About This Scholarship

To help alleviate the financial struggles of vegans and vegetarians, the Vegetarian Resource Group is offering a scholarship for $500-$1000 to cover college tuition. If you are vegan or vegetarian and attending college, submit your application by February 20, 2024. Eligible applicants must be 18 years old with a valid U.S. social security number and have at least one year left in their current program (students may apply part-time). The Vegetarian Resource Group is a non-profit organization that provides information and support to vegetarians and those interested in vegetarianism. The organization also researches the benefits of vegetarianism and promotes vegetarianism as a healthy and ethical lifestyle choice. A vegetarian is an individual who does not eat meat, fish, or poultry. Historically, vegetarianism has been the diet of people concerned about the ethics of their diets. The word “vegetarian” comes from an Old English word meaning “one who eats vegetables.” In some cases, vegetarians may consume fish and eggs. Vegans do not consume any animal products (e.g., honey).

  • The VEGF scholarship is for current students only. Yet, applicants may apply to both currently enrolled and not enrolled students: “Current” means a student who is attending college or university full time, according to their home institution’s academic calendar (i.e., “undergraduate,” “graduate,” etc.).
  • To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be graduating high school seniors who have promoted vegetarianism in their schools or communities. Applicants must also have been accepted to a U.S. college or university.
