About This Scholarship

The Vermont John H. Chafee Education and Training Scholarship is a need-based scholarship awarded to people of any age who are residents of Vermont but depend on some form of income other than the traditional wage. The Vermont Chafee Education and Training Scholarship aims to assist young adults aging out of foster care who may encounter challenges in adulthood. The program aims to aid these individuals in preparing for and entering training or educational institutions beyond high school. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must attend an accredited school that is approved for federal Title IV funding, have been under the custody of the Vermont Commissioner of the Department for Children and Families (DCF) until their 18th birthday, or have been adopted after the age of 16 but would have otherwise remained under DCF custody until their 18th birthday. Additionally, applicants must be 21 or younger and demonstrate a financial need. The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) administers a program that aims to assist young adults from the foster system in attaining their desired education.
