About This Scholarship

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Scout of the Year Scholarship is a scholarship program that recognizes outstanding Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Venturers who have demonstrated exceptional citizenship, patriotism, and leadership in their communities. The scholarship is open to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Venturers who are registered and active members of their respective Scouting programs and have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Gold Award, or Summit Award. Applicants must also be under the age of 21 and have plans to enroll in an accredited college or university in the United States.

The VFW Scout of the Year Scholarship aims to honor and recognize outstanding Scouts who have demonstrated exceptional citizenship, patriotism, and leadership, and to support their continued education and development as future leaders in their communities and the nation.

Eligibility Criteria For Veterans of Foreign Wars Scout of the Year Scholarship

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Scout of the Year Scholarship is offered to recognize outstanding young members of the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts who have demonstrated exceptional citizenship, patriotism, and leadership. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout or Girl Scout unit.
  • Be 15 years of age or older and have demonstrated practical citizenship in school, scouting, and the community.
  • Have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Summit Award, or Quartermaster Award.
  • Submit a completed application, including transcripts, letters of recommendation, and an essay on a patriotic theme.

Note that meeting these eligibility criteria does not guarantee that an applicant will receive a scholarship, as selection is based on a competitive review process. The scholarship committee will review all applications and make awards based on merit, including scouting achievements, leadership, and community involvement.
