About This Scholarship

Washington State University (WSU) offers two types of scholarships: the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship and the Cougar Award. Here’s some information about each: Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship: The WUE Scholarship is a program that allows out-of-state students from participating states in the Western region of the United States to enroll at WSU at a reduced tuition rate.

Cougar Award: The Cougar Award is a merit-based scholarship offered to incoming freshmen students. It recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and extracurricular involvement. The Cougar Award is competitive and offers varying amounts depending on the qualifications of the recipient. Students are automatically considered for the Cougar Award based on their application for admission to WSU.

Eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Residency: Students must be residents of one of the participating WUE states, which often include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, or Washington.
  • Academic Requirements: Students must meet WSU’s admission requirements, which may include a minimum GPA and standardized test scores (such as SAT or ACT).
  • Academic Achievement: Cougar Awards often recognize students with exceptional academic performance, including a strong GPA and high standardized test scores.
  • Leadership and Involvement: Demonstrated leadership qualities and active participation in extracurricular activities, community service, or other leadership roles may be considered.
  • Personal Achievements: WSU may consider personal achievements such as honors, awards, or recognition in specific areas, such as athletics, arts, or academics.
