These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, and other criteria. Some of the merit scholarships offered by Clemson University include:

- Palmetto Fellows Scholarship: This is a merit-based scholarship program offered by the state of South Carolina. It provides substantial financial assistance to high-achieving resident students who meet certain eligibility criteria.
- Calhoun Honors College Scholarships: Clemson University’s Calhoun Honors College offers a range of scholarships to academically talented students who are admitted to the honors program.
- General Merit Scholarships: Clemson University also offers a variety of general merit scholarships to resident students based on their academic performance, leadership, and involvement in extracurricular activities.
