The Ruth Suckow Iowa Student College Scholarship awards a $1,000 college scholarship to the writer of the essay that best analyses Ruth Suckow’s first book, Country People, which is set in Iowa, or one or more of her short stories, including “A Start in Life,” “A Great Mollie,” “Midwestern Primitive,” “A Rural Community,” and “Resurrection.” Online access to all of these works is free.
$500 will be given to the student’s instructor (if there is one) for use in supplies, instruction, or another sanctioned purpose. Students who attend Iowa AP high schools, Iowa community colleges, Iowa colleges and universities, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, are eligible. Essay Length: 2,500–5,000 words, must be electronically submitted timely.
