About This Scholarship

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), which is an organization of physical therapists dedicated to constructing a community that enhances the profession of physiological therapy to improve the health of society, is the organization that provides funding for the Outstanding PT Student and PTA Student Award. Each year, the APTA bestows the Outstanding PT Student and PTA Student Award upon several student physical therapists and aides who have significantly contributed to the APTA and the physical therapy field. The award can be worth up to $1,000. The APTA awards the Outstanding PT Student and PTA Student Awards to outstanding students actively involved in physical therapy. The award is also given for activity as a PTA. Each year, the Association for Physical Therapy Education (APTE) bestows the Outstanding Publication Award to one outstanding physical therapist published in APTE journals, textbooks, or newsletters during the preceding two years.

Eligibility Criteria For Outstanding PT Student and PTA Student Award

In addition to meeting the below criteria, nominees for both awards may also be evaluated based on their leadership skills, community service, and involvement in professional organizations related to physical therapy.

  • Academic Excellence: The student must demonstrate outstanding academic performance in their PT program, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Clinical Skills: The student should exhibit excellent clinical skills in their practicum or clinical rotation.
  • Professionalism: The student must behave professionally and commit to ethical principles and values.
  • Research and Scholarship: The student should demonstrate an interest in research and scholarship related to physical therapy.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The student should communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Teamwork: The student should be able to work effectively as part of a team.
