Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund

The eligibility criteria for the Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund (LOS) are as follows:

• Applicants must be a member of a racial or ethnic group that is traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession, such as African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Asian/Pacific Islander.
• Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, or a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
• Applicants must be enrolled or have been accepted into an American Bar Association-accredited law school on a full-time basis.
• All the applicants must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, and have a record of community service or leadership to apply for this scholarship.
• Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide a detailed description of their financial circumstances.
• Applicants must provide their undergraduate and law school transcripts and two letters of recommendation.
• Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 500 words that discusses their career goals and how they plan to use their legal education to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.

It is important to note that the scholarship program is open to all eligible students regardless of their gender, religion, or sexual orientation. They must also provide two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to their academic abilities and potential for success in the legal profession. The deadline to apply typically falls in mid-March, and scholarship recipients are notified in the summer.
