About This Scholarship

Everyone in an equitable society is treated justly and fairly by its institutions and systems, regardless of the circumstances of their birth or upbringing. The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation’s goal is to bring together locals in order to mobilize resources for the advancement of a racially just society and equitable outcomes for citizens of Oak Park, River Forest, and other areas. Numerous scholarships are available from the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation.

The scholarship was created by Catherine Devereux Brandstrader’s grandchildren in memory of their grandmother, who lived in Oak Park with her husband Frederick and raised eight children. The family did not have the money to send their girls to college, but all three of their sons went. Candidates must be graduating female seniors from Trinity, Fenwick, or Oak Park and River Forest.
