Eligibility Criteria For Northern Michigan University Allies Scholarship

Here are some common factors that are often considered:

  • LGBTQ+ identification: Scholarships for LGBTQ+ individuals typically require applicants to identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer. Some scholarships may also be open to students who identify as allies or are involved in LGBTQ+ advocacy.
  • Field of study: Scholarships may be specific to certain fields of study or majors. They may aim to support LGBTQ+ students pursuing various disciplines, including STEM, arts, humanities, social sciences, or other specific areas.
  • Enrollment status: Scholarships may require applicants to be enrolled or accepted as full-time or part-time students in an accredited higher education institution, such as a college, university, or vocational school.
  • Essay or personal statement: Scholarships often require applicants to write an essay or personal statement highlighting their experiences, challenges faced as an LGBTQ+ individual, and their aspirations. These essays provide an opportunity to showcase one’s achievements, goals, and contributions to the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Recommendations: Applicants may need to provide letters of recommendation from teachers, mentors, employers, or community leaders who can speak to their abilities, character, and potential.
  • LGBTQ+ advocacy or community involvement: Scholarships may consider an applicant’s involvement in LGBTQ+ organizations, activism, community service, or volunteer work. Demonstrating a commitment to LGBTQ+ advocacy and making a positive impact can strengthen a scholarship application.
