About This Scholarship

Only Michigan residents who are high school seniors or college students – without a bachelor’s degree – who are sons, daughters, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of wartime veterans are eligible for the William D and Jewell W Brewer Scholarship Trusts. Applicants must be planning to attend or already be enrolled in a nationally accredited college, university, or trade school. The selection process takes into account a student’s GPA of 2.5 or better, financial necessity, the honourable active military service of either a parent or grandparent, aspirations, and intents. Scholarships are non-renewable and worth $500.

Eligibility Criteria For William D and Jewell W Brewer Scholarship

Here are some common eligibility considerations:

  • Relationship to the warrior: The scholarship may be available to immediate family members of war veterans or active-duty service members. This may include spouses, children, or sometimes grandchildren. Some scholarships may extend eligibility to siblings or parents of the warrior.
  • War time or active-duty status: The scholarship may require the warrior to have served in a specific conflict or war, such as World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, or other military engagements. Alternatively, it may also encompass active-duty service members currently serving in military operations.
  • Service-related criteria: The scholarship may consider the warrior’s military service, such as an honorable discharge, being injured or disabled due to service, missing in action, or killed in action. Specific service-related criteria can vary depending on the scholarship program.
  • Academic qualifications: Scholarships often have academic requirements, such as a minimum GPA or enrollment in an accredited educational institution. The applicant, who is a family member of the warrior, may need to provide their own academic records.
  • Application materials: The scholarship may require applicants to submit various documents, such as a completed application form, personal statements or essays, letters of recommendation, proof of military service of the warrior, and possibly documentation establishing the relationship to the warrior.
