The Jazz at the Ballroom Scholarship is provided by Jazz at the Ballroom, a group dedicated to preserving the vitality of swinging, traditional jazz and fostering a welcoming atmosphere where guests can feel at ease and artists can express their stories, enthusiasm, and skills. Annually, three high school jazz instrumentalists enrolled in a California high school are awarded $1,000 through the Jazz at the Ballroom Scholarship. Applicants must be enrolled at a California high school. All applicants must prepare two contrasting jazz tunes with a lead sheet (chords) in hand and bring them to their audition. Songs may be played on any instrument, and solos may feature any style, including improvisation. Audition pieces should be approximately three minutes in length. The Jazz at the Ballroom Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for high school jazz instrumentalists in California to receive financial support and recognition for their skills and passion for jazz music. By meeting the eligibility criteria and following the application process, applicants can increase their chances of being selected for the scholarship.
